i'm back from bangkok!
nothing much to blog about it though. didnt get much shopping time thanks to the bimbo that the nigel's sis-in-law brought along. she was so annoying. to me, the trip was quite bad coz i was quite frustrated with the rubber timing and the need to accomodate so many people with so different interests. didnt get much shopping time. more updates and pictures to come! ~in the midst of editing pictures :) faded into oblivion @ 10:25 PM Thursday, July 26, 2007
a tiny entry before i head to bed.
endured 3 days of boring work and i'm 8hrs away before i board the thai airline flight to bangkok. whee~! for those of you who are sibei sian with work or school, and have access to the internet, do check out sibeisian. his entries are super entertaining and hilarious. i spent all of the hours at work today reading his entries right from its beginning. i hope none of my colleagues caught me giggling quietly to myself while staring at the screen. it would make me look psychotic. ~~~~ been wanting to meet up with some friends that i've lost contact with or have not seen in a while. i have a rigid schedule due to being in the workforce. means i'm only free to meet up after working hours, and it doesnt help that i work alternate saturdays as well. so it gets a bit difficult to arrange meetups. glad that so.. mandyy.. i'd meet up with you when i get back! how abt kfc for old times' sake? *wink* just kidding~... faded into oblivion @ 12:07 AM Monday, July 23, 2007
short lil update. another weekend has passed. the dreaded work week has begun yet again. weekends are never enough.
22 July, 2007 - Sunday met up with a few cousins at pepperlunch. the first of many future gatherings i hope. it's quite difficult to gather the cousins during one outing coz two are working in australia. it was really fun meeting up with them. chatting, catching up, reminisce on childhood times, and a 'interrogation' session to dig out certain secrets. heh sherwin, colin, meredith, me, my bro (missing: kenneth and my eldest bro) ~~ bitten by the travel bug... bangkok trip in 3 days. when will i get to go taiwan and japan?? faded into oblivion @ 11:35 AM Thursday, July 19, 2007
changed yet another blogskin :)
this is how bored and free i am at work. well, partly coz the lab's aircon rattled to a halt on monday. The aircon unit was taken out on wednesday and will probably be repaired in a week or two. the lab is a hot and stuffy confined area without the aircon. so i've managed to avoid the lab at all costs: reducing time spent in the lab, staying in office and using the net, sitting infront of the fan at the store area while updating stock cards. quite sick of editing the html actually. tired. faded into oblivion @ 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 18, 2007
:) new blogskin.
had a hard time deciding on the skin. another black background. my initial choice was bright and cheerful, just that it didnt fit the pictures. so this is actually the 2nd best. spent the day at work editing the skin. heh. i think i'd be changing skins more frequently. wanna try out all those nice skins i saw from magnette and slayerette. countdown to bangkok trip.......... 8 days~ faded into oblivion @ 3:27 PM Monday, July 16, 2007
bored at work.
sooo... countdown to bangkok shopping madness.... . . . . . 11 days. faded into oblivion @ 1:23 PM accurate analysis. click here to try.
You are trying desperately to prove yourself. You are going at it hammer and tongs in order to get your own way. You oppose any sort of restriction or opposition to your own point of view in the belief that this could prove you how self determined you are. You are a very warm and emotional individual but unfortunately in the past too many people have taken advantage of this sensitive trait. You need aesthetic surroundings, or an equally sensitive and understanding partner with whom to share a warm understanding. You feel tired - worn out and listless. The last thing that you want to do is to be in an open conflict with those around you that are forever tormenting you. What to do? That's the rub. You are feeling that you are being choked - unable to breathe. You are pretending that the situation around you doesn't matter, but the effort of trying to conceal your emotions and anxieties is resulting in untold stress. The existing situation is disagreeable. You feel unwanted and lonely and you would really like to associate with someone whose ideals are as high as your own. You want to be above the standard of mediocrity and this need to be needed and that need to need has almost become an obsession. You are trying to magnify the need into a compelling urge. You would really like to tell the world how great you are but no, you are holding back because you feel that your peers may treat you with contempt. This is a great pity because you have in fact a unique quality of character, but the continual restraint that you impose on yourself makes you suppress this need for others and you pretend you don't really care. You treat those who criticise you with contempt. However, to be honest, beneath this assumption of indifference you really long for the approval and esteem of others. The need for admiration and to be regarded as 'someone special' is perhaps one of the foremost aims in your life at this time. You would like to perhaps do something outrageous or anything that will give you the chance to be recognised as someone special. This desire has now almost become an obsession and in your own way you are trying to fulfil this 'complex' by ensuring you are the centre of attention, both at work or play, or in the home. Stop trying so hard and you will find that people will like you for who you are - not for who you are pretending to be. faded into oblivion @ 1:16 PM Saturday, July 14, 2007
i'm back from hong kong!! touched down in changi airport at 11.40pm on sunday night, but went to sleep at 2am. since then, i havent had sufficient sleep thus been dragging my feet over updating.
5th July, 2007 - Thursday nigel's parents gave me, nigel and his bro a lift to the airport at 5.30am. the flight was at 6.45am. but United Airline was a pain. they brought forward the flight by 10mins. and boarding 20mins before that. so technically, we were supposed to be on the plane by 6.20am. however, we didnt notice this at first, so we took our time in dfs getting cosmetics and whatnots. we settled the pre-order slips to collect the stuff when we get back (to siam gst), then walked over to the gate. then this buggy comes along and the driver asks ' hey, are you the 4 passengers heading to hongkong via UA? the gate is closing. they are going to throw your luggages off the plane if you dont hurry!'... so we rushed to get on the buggy, and he sped to the gate. as we went thru the security checks, there was this big hoo-ha about us being late and throwing our luggages out. the officers were radio-ing back and forth with the luggage control officers at the cargo area on the status of our luggages. well, in short, we almost missed our flight. but i dont know if it is coz we were late or what. but the plane taxi-ed out at the time that was stated and took off only at 7am. beep la. so anyway, we got onto the flight albeit a few stares and uncomfortable treatment. and the eat-shop-eat routine began! first with burger king breakfast at changi airport and 2nd breakfast on the plane. :) picture diary below:P 3.5hrs later, we arrived in Hong Kong!! ![]() on the way to the hotel. ![]() our cosy lil' room for the next 3 nights. Mayfair Garden Hotel. ![]() here's the tiny lil' bathroom. -.- ![]() the view from the 10th floor. ![]() ![]() we still had space for dessert! carrot cake. ![]() steam milk and egg white & mango with grass jelly. ![]() tangyuan in ginger soup. it was just a passing shower. when our desserts came. the rain stopped-.- but we still finished everything. at least tried to. then it was time for shopping!! practically covered the shopping district in Mongok. but i didnt get to take any pictures. busy taking in the sights and window shopping. we had snacks along the way. chilli fishballs and even smelly tou foo! the horrors. ![]() it was sooo smelly. it was like i just drank sewage. we walked so much today, my legs were pleading me to stop. but i lugged them to Avenue of the Stars to watch the fireworks on Victoria Harbour. then we headed to dinner along Nathan Rd, close to the Jordan MTR. i'm telling you this coz we didnt get the name of the restaurant, but it had the best stewed beef and rice served in bamboo.
ok you cant really see that the beef is super good. but you just have to take my word for it. ![]() i had beef congee. ![]() carrot cake again. ![]() that ends the first day:) 6th July, 2007 - Friday we set aside today to go to Disneyland. ![]() so i guess you can smoke all you want here.. -.- ![]() at Hong Kong Disneyland! ![]() it was overrun by this huge group of probably 300 china people from Sunrider. i think it's some health supplement mlm thingy. queues were crazy and long. pushy people who cut queues. roar... ![]() wearing a green monster hat coz i'm wearing green. ![]() nigel wearing the stitch hat with a wide grin. 'just like stitch!', he says. ![]() on the carousel. ![]() eeyore~ ![]() piglet~ at the winnie the pooh ride. ![]() captain jack sparrow (hk version) ![]() caught the disney parade! ![]() i bet you weren't looking at the float, but looking at all those butts >.< ![]() i got a mug engraved as a birthday gift for my dad. ![]() close-up of the engraved portion. ![]() stayed for the fireworks before heading back to the hotel. disneyland was rather disappointing. there was only one rollercoaster. and it was indoor. the equivalent to Escape Theme Park's Panasonic. The rest of the rides were slightly boring and i didnt get to take any photos with the cartoon characters. the damn queue to take a picture with each of them was damn long. plus the china people are super thick skinned. they hog the cartoon characters and take all the pictures they want til they happy then leave. Even though each mascot has an escort to tell them its enough and give others a chance, they just ignore and continue. roarrr. so yup, i didnt get any picture, quite sad. i should have pulled capt jack to take a photo with me. so you can see how ridiculous he looks. but cute anyways. haaha maybe Ocean Park would have been better. if only there was more time. 7th July, 2007 - Saturday another day of shopping:P we went to the Wong Tai Sin temple early in the morning to get some blessings.then headed to Hong Kong Island to shop a little. didnt take much pictures coz the camera was on low batt. it didnt give any indication lor. suddenly low batt. -.- ![]() cool contraption found in the toilet at a restaurant in a shopping centre near the temple. a plastic sheet is pulled from left to right via an hand sensor. cool right. ![]() the only picture taken an Lan Kwai Fong. wanted to take a pic with the street name, but the camera died. ![]() wanted to soak in the night life, but i was too tired and sianz coz we cant capture the moments. so i opted out. oops. 8th July, 2007 - Sunday Slept in a lil. packed our bags so that we can check out early, leave our bags with the hotel storage and do last minute shopping:) ![]() headed to Times Square on Hong Kong Island. it was where we spent the most. hah. ![]() we took Star Ferry back to Kowloon. ![]() busy taking pictures on the ferry. reliving 'charla and mirna' from the amazing race who took the Star Ferry. ![]() On the bus to the airport. ![]() .. you can see my reluctance to leave.. ~~ on the whole, the Hong Kong trip was really fun. My 21st birthday present from nigel. Holidaying with nig's bro and wife was really great. they took care of us and brought us around. we walked alot too, to everywhere that was walk-able. you'd think i would have lost some weight or toned up a bit. but NOOO.. with all the food we ate, the calories balance out. dammit. a typical day would be: heavy breakfast-morning snack-lunch-snack-tea time-dinner. hah, we were eating something every 2-3hrs la. but it was fun. i just feel bad for not finishing my meals. quite embarrassing, but really no space already. the best shopping was said to be Mongkok, along Nathan Road and its little street markets. but i think the stuff there didnt suit me. or at least i didnt find anything that was worth the price. although Hong Kong Island is supposedly more atas, with its boutiques and mid to high range labels, i thought the shopping there was better. those mid to high range labels had really nice things which are around 10% cheaper than here in singapore, on top of that, it's the summer sales so add another 10-50% discount. but i still couldnt afford la. i was trying to make the money stretch. but in the end, scrimp too much, didnt buy much. hah. should have just shopped in Hong Kong Island all the way. haha.. i went a little crazy in Esprit. i wanted to buy alot alot of things, coz i had the esprit card and it can be used anywhere in asia. but i only bought 2 normal tops. sigh. total shopping = 4 tops, 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of Mickey ear rings. disappointed? yea... sorta. nigel bought more things than me. sulks. but its ok coz....... . . . . . . . . . . . i'm going to BANGKOK at the end of the month!! wahahahaha... countdown to the bangkok trip >>>> 13 days *.* faded into oblivion @ 9:38 AM Wednesday, July 4, 2007
i'm quite forgetful. i can't remember what i did during the recent weekend.
well, anyway, the panasonic lumix fx07 that i got nigel for his 21st has been sold. FINALLY~ we've endured the lousy camera for long enough, and we've finally unloaded it to some guy at half the price we paid. although the pictures show the true colours, but it is so grainy. the pictures were not sharp compared to pictures taken by friends using their canon cameras. maybe we dont know how to fiddle with the camera settings and functions. maybe we were scammed into buying the lumix at a higher price coz we were 'carrot heads'. i dunno. all i know is that we should have been firm and bought the canon 850is like we had previously decided on. we went to get the canon 850is yesterday. the whole buying-a-camera is such a bad experience at sim lim. from hearing stories about being scammed with high prices, sales tactics to get you to buy an inferior gadget that actually costs less than it is quoted, or being detained and threatened by the hooligan-type sales men for 'cheating their ''feelings'' and wasting their time'...to experiencing it first hand. ok, i didnt get held back by those gangster-type salesmen, but the thought kept running through my mind, which made a simple decision really hard to make. there were really far-out quotes for the canon 850is.. one guy quoted $445! the highest was like $580 before 7%gst! the $445 price was super tempting, but it just didnt feel right. like there must be a catch, but i'm not willing to go find out. so for my peace of mind, nigel had to pay a little more to buy from the authorized dealer for canon, alan photo at funan. $590 inclusive of gst. from my point of view, we already made a mistake in buying the lumix and losing $300+, at least pay a lil more for the peace of mind. ~~~~~~ settled the camera and changed money to hongkong dollars. heh. his luggage is packed. mine isnt. heh i'd be on a plane outta singapore in exactly.........*drumroll*......... 16 hours!!!!!! faded into oblivion @ 2:45 PM blogger the person behind the computer.
